If you like REALLY hot food, might I bring your attention to Carolina Reaper beef jerky available on this site. The Carolina Reaper is the hottest pepper known to humankind, clocking in a 2,200,000 Scoville units. By comparison, the hottest jalapeño pepper scores a “mere” 10,000.
Seeing this, I just HAD to try it. When you first put it in your mouth, it starts out sweet. If you just hold it in your mouth and don't chew it, the pepper gradually comes forward. If you chew it, you get a massive burst of capsaicin and your mouth and throat are hit with a massive “fire.” The usual methods of “cooling the fire” (such as eating buttered bread) are mostly ineffective, although the bread does calm your stomach quite a bit. (Having a history of gastric ulcers, I attend to this sort of thing.)
I STONGLY recommend having a full stomach when you eat this, as doing so will prevent the pepper from irritating your stomach. That said, you still may be aware of its travel through your intestinal tract. It's not painful, more like a sensation similar to gas. Upon reaching the end of your digestive system, you probably will perceive a fair amount of capsaicin but nowhere as strong as when you first ate it.
I only ate a single piece (1 ounce) the first time I tried it. I tried a little more the second time, and my tongue still has some sense of burning a day later. Still, I am looking forward to finishing the bag before too long. As with all hot peppers, this one provokes an endorphin response, and the flavor is complex and certainly extreme. It's not for everyone, but it's certainly unique and very satifying.
One final caution, be sure to wash your hands after handling the Reaper jerky. I didn't the first time, and the oil actually burned my skin. Use dishwashing liquid to remove it.
If you like spicy-hot jerky, there is nothing like this. You will have a full and memorable experience!
I must admit it made me sweat halfway through a bag. I bought 4 bags. I gave out 2 away to friends and shared the 3rd bag with my coworkers. ALL of them said it was way too hot! Best darn jerky in my opinion. Nice slabs and moist.
Spicy but good the flavour was amazing hint of sweet at first then the rush of fire very very good jerky so good i had to get an extra bag yesterday within an hour or so I got two bags it's just so great
This stuff is delicious but be wary, it is spicy hot. I love hot and spicy food but OMG. If you're into that then, by all means, this is the jerky for you!
