Jerky.com – Western Ostrich Jerky

August 27th, 2009

If you’re anything like me you’re looking to get out of a beef jerky funk every now and then. You know, looking for that next best thing or just changing gears for a while. Usually when people mention “exotic jerky” the first that comes to mind is something mild-mannered such as turkey jerky or perhaps venison jerky (that’s deer). But if you want to go a little more extreme then head over to Jerky.com and feast your eyes on buffalo jerky, alligator jerky, or this weeks spotlight: Ostrich Jerky.

Farm raised in an all-natural environment right here in America and free of additional preservatives, Ostrich Jerky appears to be the epitome of what gourmet jerky is. Because of it’s higher protein and iron count, this jerky is often considered amongst the healthiest meats available, not to mention that this stuff is made from whole muscles pieces and minimally processed. After-all it did earn a spot in W.W.E magazine’s featured products section some months back.

This stuff retails for $25.99 for a half pound over at Jerky.com, let me not forget that includes shipping. The bags are resealable and the meat itself is what they call “Western” flavor which basically means original or natural. Believe you me though I’m always open to try some flavored ostrich jerky if were to ever come available. :)

So those were the facts, all that’s missing now is your opinions. Please share.

      • a little expensive for my blood, but thats not to say its a bad value because it's great taste and quality makes up some for it. when compared to other ostrich jerky prices though it's by far a very reasonable price if you got the expendable income

      • If your an ostrich fan, you will probably like this. Otherwise, stick to the beef.

      • Meat seems a little stiffer than beef, not sure if thats just how ostrich is or if it's just cut too thin.

      • The price is higher than Beef Jerky...but that is to be expected. Ostrich meat isn't as abundant as beef, which according to laws of supply and demand, make Ostrich meat more expensive. That being said, i think the taste and overall quality yield this a great value. So if you have a few extra bucks...its worth it.

      • I really like the taste of this. Its not loaded with seasonings and the meat has a very good flavor to it. It isn't as exotic tasting as it probably sounds...but it does have a unique flavor. I like it.

      • Its whole muscle Ostrich Jerky...its good. Very lean (leanest jerky i've had) and very high in protein. The Ostriches used were naturally raised with no growth hormones or antibiotics...you can't get a better piece of ostrich meat. And all of the ingredients are natural...no artificial stuff at all. 5 stars...perfect.

      • I'm a right down the middle kind of guy...i don't prefer the super tough, traditional stuff...nor do i prefer the super soft stuff. This is more of a traditional style jerky but with just the right amount of moisture and tenderness for me.
